Successful San Diego businessman/grocer Mat Heller constructed this two-story commercial building on the southwest corner of Palm and Lookout Avenue (La Mesa Boulevard) in 1930. Over the years this building housed many memorable local businesses such as Gilbert's "five and dime" and Culver's drugstore.

History plaques are a community service partnership between Rotary Club of La Mesa and La Mesa Historical Society.
