La Mesa Movie Theatre and West End, c 1930

In 1926 R.W. Davis opened this building, the La Mesa Theatre, as the young city's first movie house. An anchor of the west end of La Mesa's business district, it continued as a movie theater until 1950. The business blocks on the north side (image left) of La Mesa Boulevard would be redeveloped in the 1980s.

History plaques are a community service partnership between Rotary Club of La Mesa and La Mesa Historical Society.
